The Golden Year

When you become the age of your birthdate, you receive the gift of your golden year.

This past year has been mine: June 25th and my 25th year.

This year has been the best year of my life to date. And though I’ll probably say that every year, because of the way I approach life, it is also because it really has been extraordinary.

There are three specific reasons why that I’d love to share with you.

“Dream big, live big.” — Max Mendoza

The first why is my expansion to the San Francisco Bay Area. I have long had my sights set on the Bay, 10 years in fact and when an opportunity I had fell through in Phoenix, my mentor said, “well isn’t this exciting, you get to pursue your dream to go to San Francisco.” At first, I was afraid and uncertain but I knew deep down that she was right.  Once that became clear in my mind and I committed to it, I worked my ass off 80 hours a week and within 5 months was able to make the leap. In short – I love it here. The Bay has been incredible, highly creative, conscious and diverse. Though it has it’s own challenges as a community, it has a really been eye-opening and expanding experience. To be at the mecca of technology, business, social impact, community and culture is really unbelievable. I feel I am barely scratching the surface, and yet, I’m here. I made it.

“Follow your passionate curiosity.” — Tom McDermott

The second why is working with Delivering Happiness. I first discovered DH when I was researching my passionate curiosity around global social movements. I was captivated by the movement they had created and the company’s mission to inspire passion + purpose for happier workplace cultures worldwide. When I first met the team, I immediately thought “this is my tribe”. This international company has opened so many doors and given me opportunities I never imagined. Through DH I was able to connect with and cultivate a community in downtown Vegas through the Downtown Project. To be honest, I never thought I’d use Vegas and community in the same sentence or feel a sense of home there, but I suppose anything is possible.

“Live a life rich in life experience.” — Yours truly

My end game is to live a life rich in life experience. I want to grow up to be one of those crazy old ladies you meet on the train who’s super wise, has a million stories to tell and is still being a badass doing great work in the world. This year I really leaned into that. From Catalyst Week, Burning Man, to Higher Purpose Project, to Life is Beautiful Festival, Creativ Week, Collegetown@ASU, Starting Bloc, and Thriving Changemakers Summit to name a few, this year I’ve gone all in. See I believe that it is our experiences in life that shape us the most. They are the catalysts. These curated experiences surrounded me with extraordinary people from around the world. These experiences are what have taken my dreams, goals and desires to make a difference and thrown them into hyper drive.

All of this is to say, it’s been an incredibly enriching year, one where I’ve connected with hundreds and thousands of people. If you know me, you know that developing meaningful relationships is what I treasure most. Today, hearing from all of you I feel exceptionally blessed and loved.

The golden year has been just that and I’m looking forward to the next!

To the golden years! #alifetothemax #foreversunny #buckleformelacey
